I had lots of re-reads this year, and of the ones that were totally new to me, there were several I didn't like, so I didn't have much to chose from. But, these were the things I liked the most.

I don't have many of these. I did a lot of re-reading and reading authors I already know and love this year. I guess I need to make a goal to read more new authors next year. LOL.

Top Ten Tuesday: Anxious for Books I Don't Own

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Top 10 Books I Really Want to Read but Don't Own Yet

This one's easy. So many on my TBR list could qualify, but here's the ones I'm most eager about.

Bonus: The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin -- Okay, it's not out until 2015, but it still fits the criteria, yeah? As in, I really want to read it but don't own it yet? :D

10. Crash into You by Katie McGarry -- I actually have Dare You To and haven't read it yet, so once I get to that one, I'll probably buy Crash into You. Officially, I don't like contemporary romance. McGarry is the only author I'll read in that genre.

9. The Dove Keepers by Alice Hoffman -- A historical fiction based around the Masada massacre, everyone keeps telling me how good it is. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

8. This Dark Endeavor by Kenneth Oppell -- A re-telling of Frankenstein. The title alone makes me want to read it.

7. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo -- On my TBR list forever! I thought I had it on my kindle, but it turned out to just be the first five chapters. (Grhhh!)

6. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout -- Just need to try out Armentrout, you know?

5. Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson -- Love Sanderson! Have heard this one is particularly good. I'll get around to it at some point.

4. The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa -- Same as Armentrout, I just hear such great things and want to weigh in on the hype. :D

3. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn -- The most-reviewed book on Goodreads for 2013. Something like 28000 reviews, wasn't it? Obviously, I need to read this. Before they make it into a film.

2. City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare -- I'm loving this series. Can't wait to read the latest installment.

1. Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor -- I've gushed about this series before. Really need to get the latest installment. :D

What Top Ten novels do you really want to read but not own yet?

Top 10 Books in my Beach Bag this Summer (All covers courtesy of goodreads.com unless otherwise linked.)

I don't know if I'll even see a beach this summer! Hopefully so. We'll see. These aren't particularly beachy reads, but they're the top books I have lined up to read this summer, so if I DO make it to the beach, I'll definitely take a few of them. My theme is to either 1) finish series I've started 2) read books by authors I like that have been on my kindle WAY too long, or 3) read a book I have by an author I've never read but have been meaning to get to.

Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I've Never Read

Top 10 Popular Authors I've Never Read(All covers courtesy of Goodreads.com unless otherwise linked.)

I actually touched on this last week, but I only listed two and obviously there are plenty more authors than that I've never read. In no particular order:

10. John Green - I'm hoping to remedy this one this year. I've got The Fault in Our Stars on my kindle and hope to get to it in the next month or two.

Source

9. Jennifer L. Armentrout - The Lux series was one of the first that I put on my TBR when I joined Goodreads two years ago. I don't have an immediate plan to read it, but the year is young, right?

8. Gillian Flynn - Really Gone Girl is the only book I know by her, and it's the one that's made her famous, but considering it was the most-reviewed book on Goodreads for 2012, I figure I should check it out.

7. Rainbow Rowell - I really didn't know who she was until just the past few months, but lately her books have been showing up on countless lists, review posts, and others.

6. Jim Butcher - Just another one I hear great things about, but have never picked up.

5. Terry Brooks - I hear much of his work is Tolkien-esque, and I have lots of extended family that swear by his works. The First King of Shannara has been on my bookshelf for probably two years. Guess I really owe it to my book universe to read it, huh?

4. Rae Carson - I have Girl of Fire and Thorns on my kindle. Several of my close blogger buddies rave about this series. Can't wait to get to it.

3. Leigh Bardugo - Uh, ditto. Shadow and Bone is a totally different series and subject matter, but still can't wait to read it. I hear it has a Russian culture feel, which is all kinds of intriguing. Unfortunately, I thought I had this on my kindle, but when I went to finally start it a few months ago, it turned out that what I had was just the first five chapters. Grrrh!
2. Marissa Meyer - My teenaged niece reads The Lunar Chronicles and loves them. Every time I see her with her nose in them, I feel both envious and guilty for not reading them yet. Seriously thinking of doing some kind of fairy tale retelling challenge this summer. It would be the perfect excuse to read this trilogy! :D

1. Patrick Rothfuss - I SO want to read him! I had The Name of the Wind on my shelf for a long time, but this past Christmas I ended up giving it as a gift before I got the chance to read it. You can imagine I was kicking myself something fierce by then!

What famous authors do YOU have yet to read?

Top Ten Tuesday: 2014 Debuts

**Quick Announcement: On Wednesday and Thursday of this week Quantum Entanglement, book 2 of Interchron, will be FREE on Amazon. I'll announce it again on Wed, but just wanted everyone a heads-up.**

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Top 10 2014 Debuts I'm Excited For (pictures courtesy of goodreads.com unless otherwise linked)

This one's kind of difficult for me. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to debuts. I just have books on my TBR I want to read, and if they happen to be debuts, great, but I don't specifically look for that. So, I had to kind of hunt for these. They're the ones I found on my TBR list that just happen to be debuts. In no particular order:

8. Sing Sweet Nightingale by Erica Cameron -- Just an interesting sounding premise. It kind of has a greek gods or perhaps angel/demon kind of feel to it.

7. Servants of the Storm by Delilah S. Dawson -- This one seems creepy and like it might be kind of psychological. A fun read all around.

6. A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller -- Well, there's that title, first of all. And who doesn't love a little early twentieth-century scandal every now and again?

5. Dear Killer by Katherine Ewell -- This starts with a list of rules to live by, which means the story will be structured well. It'll definitely be creepy and psychological, with vast, eerie character sketches. Can't wait!

4. Nil by Lynne Matson -- This seems like Lost meets Robert Heinlein. I hope it's super well-written because it sounds fabulous.

3. The Murder Complex by Lindsay Comings -- A dark, somewhat dystopian thriller where the murder rate is higher than the birth rate. Very intriguing concept.

2. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge -- I think we'll see this one on a lot of lists. It's getting a lot of hype, and for good reason. Gotta love fairy tale retellings! :D

1. Citadels of Fire by Yours Truly -- Okay, I'm totally cheating putting my book on here. Obviously it's not my debut. It's not even my debut under this pen name. But it IS my HISTORICAL FICTION debut. Plus, it's my blog. So there. :D

That's it for me! What 2014 debuts are YOU looking forward to?

Top Ten Tuesday: Best/Worst Series Enders

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Top Ten Best/Worst Series Enders (All covers courtesy of Goodreads.com unless otherwise linked.)

Worst Enders:

3. Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis--I actually don't like putting this on a "worst" list, because it really wasn't. I didn't mind it, I was just disappointed by the final book. It's called "The Last Battle," but it's actually very slow and somewhat anti-climatic. What happened was pretty cool, but it just didn't feel as engaging as other stories.

2. The Twilight Sagaby Stephenie Meyer--I was actually a pretty big Twilight fan while the series was being put out, but I really hated the end of book 4. It felt like she changed her mind right before the end. She set us up for a huge battle, but then when everyone got there, they just changed their minds and went home. Really? I will say that, surprisingly, the movie did a better job with it. We got to see the whole battle before it was retracted, which made the ending feel more real and justified. At least to me. :D

1. The Girl that Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson--I've talked about this before, but I totally hated this series, mostly because of the way it ended. Book 1 was okay, but this was a case of the author setting us up for something, then changing his mind fifty pages before the end of the series. I kept reading, hoping it would get better. Afterward, I decided it had been a colossal waste of time.

Best Enders:

5. All is Well by Gerald N. Lund--Such a great conclusion to an epic historical fiction saga! It ended on the perfect note and I totally loved it!

Source
4. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins--I know lots of people didn't like book 3, but I think that's to be expected. Parts of it did feel rushed to me, but the end of the book--and I mean the VERY end--kind of made the story for me. Maybe I'm a sap, but overall I really liked it.

3. Confessor by Terry Goodkind--I won't say it was all kinds of epic, but it got to the point where I really didn't know how he would end the series and solve all the problems he'd come up with over 11 books. I ended up being pretty impressed with what he did.

2. The Deadly Hallows by J.K.Rowling--I know people had some complaints about book 7, but most of them didn't bother me. I still started reading and just couldn't stop, finishing this tome in only 2-3 days. In my book, that's a pretty great finale. Plus, we got lots of tragedy, battles, and a fitting end to an epic villain. I especially liked the "19 Years Later" afterward. The line where Harry tells his son that he was named after two Hogwarts headmasters and one of them (referencing Snape) was the bravest man he'd ever known is, in my opinion, one of the best lines I've ever read. I still tear up when I think of it.

1. A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson--So you totally saw this coming, right? I know I'm a broken record on the subject of this series, but I can't emphasize enough how great the final book was. The most amazing, epic, battle-ridden, awesome character arcs, in all other ways incredible series ender! Everything we could have hoped for over fourteen books and literally thousands of pages!

Bonus: Enders That I Can't Wait for (the Veronicas!):

1. Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi
