Top Ten Tuesday: Book Covers for Halloween

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list  that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

Top 10 Scary Book Covers (all covers courtesy of goodreads.com unless otherwise linked)

10. Anna Dressed in Blood / Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake -- SUCH great ghost reads for Halloween! And with spooky covers to match. Totally loved both! My reviews HERE and HERE, respectively.

9.  Some Quiet Place by Kelsey Sutton--I've heard mixed reviews about this one (haven't read it myself) but the premise is awesome and the cover is downright disturbing!

8.  Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz -- I used to get these from my teeny-bopper school library as a kid and they ALWAYS gave me nightmares. My mom would yell at me not to check them out ever again...but I always would. The art work both on the covers and inside was one of the scariest things about them!

7.  Misery by Stephen King -- Both these covers are super-creepy. Confession time: I've never actually read Misery, but for whatever reason, I know the story very well, so I don't know if I will any time soon. But, knowing the story, these covers are definitely chilling.

6.  It by Stephen King -- This one I have read. Yeah, killer clowns = creepy!

5.  Desecration by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins -- Okay, this is less creepy for the image--though even that is pretty dark--and more creepy for the little tagline. This is supposed to be a modern-day rendering of the book of Revelation. For anyone who's read the bible, that tagline is just creepy. In case you can't read it, it says, "The Anti-Christ takes the throne."

4.  Pitch Green by The Brothers Washburn -- This cover, creepy as it is, is much creepier once you've read the book. Which is fabulous, by the way. It's such an amazing YA horror book. And so original! I promise you haven't read one like this before. I would highly recommend it as a Halloween read!

3.  Dissension by Adrienne Monson -- I'll admit I wasn't a huge fan of this book. (My review HERE) It's a vampire book and I think the cover is really creepy.

2.  Persistence of Vision by Yours Truly -- I often get told how creepy my covers are, and I couldn't pass up a marketing opportunity, now could I? :D

1.  Dark Remnants also by Yours Truly -- Uh, you know, ditto. :D

So, how about you? What are your picks for the Top Ten creepiest covers?

    1. Thanks! I think Some Quiet Place has a melancholy quality to it, and it adds to creepiness, somehow. I guess you're right: it's hard to put your finger on. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. LOL. Yeah, I guess with a subject like this, you're likely to see a lot of clowns. Surprisingly, I've seen few spiders. I guess there aren't many books about those. :D Happy Tuesday!
