Follow Friday: Book Selling!

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Bookselling Time: Go to your biggest bookcases. Go to the second shelf from the top and pick out the sixth book from the left. Handsell that book to us - even if you haven’t read it or if you hated it.

So I have two blogs and LOTS of shelves. I picked the two largest to do each post with. Check out my other blog to see my other pick. The book on my shelf in that position is called Abish. It's an LDS historical fiction novel about a woman who lived in pre-historic America.

Every story must have a beginning. If mine were to be told, it would begin two lifetimes ago, before a queen gave me my freedom and I moved from land to land looking for a place where I belonged. It would begin before death ripped out my heart. But it would not be my story alone. It would tell of a proud people brought low and of a low people exalted, because my tale is only a thread that has somehow become entwined in the tapestry that has unfolded around me.
And so begins the intensely emotional, richly spiritual odyssey of Abish, whose significant contribution to Book of Mormon history is creatively depicted in this finely crafted story of love, loss, and redemption. This is a story of one woman's courage in the face of life-threatening dangers, of faith that triumphs over fear, and of an all-encompassing love that changes the lives and spiritual destiny of thousands—Nephites and Lamanites alike. Gifted LDS author K.C. Grant demonstrates a profound understanding of the time, setting, and people that provide the backdrop to this compelling and inspiring narrative—an intricate tale of suspense, romance, intrigue, and spiritual triumphs.

Overall, I really liked this book. It was well-written with great characters and descriptions, and a compelling plot. I did have one small issue with it, and that was the ending. Not that the ending itself was bad, but I felt like the author cut off the story before right before a huge historical event. I had expected the book to cover that event so when it just ended, I was kind of blind-sided. It would be like setting a story in Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, and then ending the story suddenly on the 6th, right before the invasion. Wouldn't you kind of expect that a story set exactly then would cover the invasion? Anyway, I have pet peeve about authors who shy away from big, dark events, so I didn't like that about it.

But, that was my only issue. Everything else was really great, well-written and all. So, if you'r at all interested in the history of pre-historic America, or just historical fiction in general with religious themes, you'd probably really enjoy this book.

So, what are you up-selling today?

  1. Never heard of that one. You do bring up an interesting point, I don't think I've come across it much myself, but there was one book I read where the girl went on the Titanic and if it didn't have the ship sinking, I probably would've been a mite disappointed as well.
