Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list  that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

Top Ten Tuesday REWIND -- pick a past topic you missed or one you want to revisit! I picked Favorite Book Quotes

Oh so many great book quotes. I probably have a hundred things underlined in the Wheel of Time series alone, and pretty much every line Cormac McCarthy's ever written is quoteable, but I tried to give some variety, and concentrate on thematic quotes for the work.

10. “Listen to me, he said, when your dreams are of some world that never was or some world that never will be, and you're happy again, then you'll have given up. Do you understand? And you can't give up, I won't let you.”--Cormac McCarthy, The Road

9. "It takes very little to govern good people. Very little. And bad people can't be governed at all. Or if they could, I never heard of it."--Cormac McCarthy, No Country for Old Men
8. "It is a farfar better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a farfar better rest that I go to than I have ever known."--Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities
7. They are afraid of nothing,’ I grumbled, watching their approach through the window. ‘Together, they would brave Satan and all his legions.’--Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights

6. "But when I am alone in the half light of the canyon all existence seems to fade to a being with my soul and memories. And the sounds of the Big Black Foot River and a four count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise. Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters."--Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It

5. "Atticus." said Jem bleakly. He turned in the doorway. "What, son?" "How could they do it, how could they?" "I don't know, but they did it. They've done it before and they did it tonight and they'll do it again and when they do it seems that only children weep. Good night."--Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird

4. "We rode on the winds of the rising storm, We ran to the sounds of the thunder. We danced among the lightning bolts,     and tore the world asunder.”--Robert Jordan, Crossroads of Twilight
3. "True, he had made that last stride, he had stepped over the edge, while Ihad been permitted to draw back my hesitating foot. And perhaps in this is the whole difference; perhaps all the wisdom, and all truth, and all sincerity, are just compressed into that inappreciable moment of time in which we step over the threshold of the invisible..."--Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness

2. "Since I had peeped over the edge myself, I understand better the meaning of his stare, that could not see the flame of the candle, but was wide enough to embrace the whole universe, piercing enough to penetrate all hearts that beat in the darkness..."--Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness
1. "I have wrestled with death. It is the most unexciting contest you can imagine. It takes place in an impalpable greyness, with nothing underfoot, with nothing around, with no spectators, no clamour, without glory, without the great desire of victory, without the great fear of defeat, in a sickly atmosphere of tepid skepticism, without much belief in your own right, and even less in that of your adversary. If such is the form of ultimate wisdom, then life is a greater riddle than some of us think it to be."--Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness

  2. Excellent list and I agree, pretty much every line of McCarthy is quotable. He really is one of the great American writers. I haven't read Heart of Darkness in a long time. After reading your list, I am tempted to do so.

  5. I'm not really a quote person. And I have to say that I hate Heart of Darkness. I know some people love it, but that book was not for me. Love the To Kill a Mockingbird quote, though.
